Well, if you don't do anything else, it is probably bad for you. On the other hand, I do not know what those people would be doing, anyway. I think we exaggerate the affect of the introduction of tv. Listen to a lot of old radio programs, not the cream, but the average. They are dumber, if cleaner,than just about anything on the tube. Look at a bunch of old movies, not the ones that have achieved classic status, but a bunch of B pictures and serials: they are dreadful, except when they can be viewed as camp. Consider the board games that people used to play: Monopoly was one of the best, and it required comparatively little judgment. But most of all, think back a couple of hundred years, when most people spent the day in hard toil, and the evenings playing cards, drinking, and sleeping, because there wasn't much else to do. TV is an improvement over what Marx called "bucolic idiocy"........
