And this year, you don't have to be inside the convention halls in Philadelphia or Los Angeles to take part. Thanks to the Internet, people all over the country can participate in the conventions from the convenience and comfort of their homes. It was 50 years ago that TV burst onto the political scene, providing televised coverage of the national political conventions for the first time. TV has since changed our understanding and relation to all aspects of politics -- conventions, debates, how we elect our leaders. This year, a new medium -- the Internet -- will make its national political debut. For the first time, Internet organizations are fully accredited to cover the conventions. In fact, AOL will report on the proceedings from a skybox inside the convention halls -- alongside the TV networks. At AOL, we have long believed the interactive medium has the power to fundamentally change our political process by empowering people to educate themselves and to interact directly with candidates and each other. Now, with more and more people moving online, this transformation is beginning to take place. Increasingly, citizens are using the Internet to find the information they want about political candidates, their elected leaders and how they can interact with all levels of government. This year, AOL is offering gavel-to-gavel coverage of the Conventions -- something we have never done before. In addition to live full motion audio and video of the convention proceedings, we'll provide programming and coverage that brings the conventions to members in a new, engaging and fun way. Let me give you a few examples. ConventionCam -- Our 24-hour-a day WebCam will allow people to catch whatever is going on in the convention hall throughout convention week -- at any time. Round-the-clock shots of the convention halls will begin the day before the conventions and run until the gavel falls. Delegate Diaries -- Daily diaries from convention delegates offer firsthand accounts of convention activities, taking members behind the scenes in Philadelphia and Los Angeles. Live Events -- Discussions with convention speakers and delegates, elected leaders, reporters and fellow AOL members will provide you with the opportunity to hear from experts and to register your views on the top issues of the day. The Live Events will also provide quick links to additional information about the speakers, candidates and newsmakers to enhance the online convention experience. AOL's convention coverage is part of our Election 2000 programming, which is designed to allow members to take control of the political process by cutting through the sound bites to find the information you believe is most important. Two of the more popular features of Election 2000 are PresidentMatch and Localized Voter Guides. PresidentMatch is an interactive tool to help people find the presidential candidate whose views are closest to their own. This feature allows you to enter and prioritize your political beliefs on key issues such as the economy, education and foreign policy and find the presidential candidate with the closest matching views. Our voter guides provide information and links on candidates from the presidential contest down to state legislative races. By simply entering your zip code, you can find personalized news, polls, message boards, candidate web sites, and other information for more than 5,000 races across the country. While the elections in and of themselves are interesting, how you interact with your government and access key government services may be even more relevant to your life. That's why we've worked to create tools that make government more accessible and convenient. Earlier this year, we launched GovernmentGuide, the most comprehensive and easy-to-use online guide to government resources. GovernmentGuide offers a clear, simple and intuitive directory of the most useful agencies, programs and resources of the U.S. government. This innovative portal provides information on government programs that can help you pay for college, learn about the latest product recalls or take advantage of programs targeted at small businesses. So check out some of these sites. These online resources will help you engage government in new, meaningful ways and will give you the tools to make your voice heard on election day. Hopefully, you'll find them informative, interesting and fun. Warm Regards, Steve Case & Jeff Bezos
