Gary, maybe what the author meant was more indirect.

Everyone agrees that the enterprise business for NT is not going ballistic like the rest of their divisions but the Bay acquisition had a very strong impact on NT that goes beyond simple revenue contribution.

It was not a perfect acquisition but then very few acquisitions are and NO ONE bats 100%. Bay was and still is a very good investment that will bear a return that no one can absolutely gage. It is possible that without a seminal acquisition like Bay, NT employees would still be behaving and working like the old world LU!

NT is racing ahead and it will make few more less than perfect buys but I rather have a CEO who makes mistakes because he is trying to turn NT into a Gorilla than one who tries to play a safe status quo game like McGinn.

NT acquisitions since Bay has been for the most part Inspirational and Brilliant. They have gone and acquired missing pieces of the puzzle like a surgeon and they appear to have skimmed off the cream in each sector.

My bet is that since the Bay acquisition, NT has made far more prudent investments than CSCO. Where is Pirelli contribution for example.

Of course, I think that NT has a big advantage when it comes to acquisitions since number one, it knows WHAT technology to buy and number two and perhaps more importantly it knows HOW to INTEGRATE the new technology into its existing platform of products.

One more point.... one of the reason why NT mgmt has not focused as much on enterprise router is that the potential in Optics and Wireless is just so huge.

Its like this.........if there is huge overhanging fruits that NT can pick TODAY, it is hard to justify losing focus to try to expand their market share in enterprise routing especially if the enterprise routing is not the growth or critical space that networking wars will be fought on.

No excuses ..... but I understand where NT focus should be and witness CSCO acquisitions as they also understand this.
