meadowcow, what you've described is pretty much near a syndicated radio program, or a satellite service, both of which are forms of wireless that are accessible over large land masses. I found the following an interesting part of your message:

"I would be able to access the Internet pretty much anywhere in the country. (sort of like National Public Radio)"

I seem to recall you can do just the reverse of that, that is, you can "tune in" and listen to the NPR radio program on the Internet. Or, am I thinking of a public Jazz station (WBGO FM of Newark, NJ) that patches through NPR programming every now and again on its own Internet program?
