I love the guys here in Texas who will not play the lottery when it is at the minimum of only $4Million!!! I assume that the payoff would upset their long term tax plan and better to wait for much larger payoff with much longer odds.

It seems to be that playing the lottery is like playing the pennies.

I throw a dollar or two at the lottery here, but never before it exceeds five MM. Here it starts at 1 MM, odds are one in 7 or so MM. Almost never bet more than $5 per draw, unless it gets up to around 20 MM. Then I might bet $10.

I guess it's more for entertainment purposes than anything else.

I have close friends that hit for a few MM.
