Mogul, NT does own 16% as a result of aninitial investment in the company. NT severed ties with the company a year ago, first attempting to deliver the versalar 25k and finally opting to sign a reseller deal with JNPR. One major difference between JNPR and Avici is the software. Routing is not all about the hardware (also the case with Nexabit). The Sw effort at Avici has been second class. Nexabit did the same thing in their development cycle, leaving sw for the end. I see a number of similarities. I also believe that Avici had to go public given their cash burn rate and cash on hand. tp

Mogul: My 3 purchases of AVCI last week (at $93, 97 and 100) are starting to look better and better all the time...the stock prices are based on future expectations and its becoming clear that the market has VERY HIGH expectations for Avici....Strap in and enjoy the ride. It is my largest position and I intend to ride with it into the fall and beyond if the firm delivers like I expect them too. Of course a buyout by a Cisco or a Juniper wouldn't be the end of the world either <VBG>....IMO, in this turbulent time for the Naz invest in the HOTTEST sector -- fiber optics. We can't take AVCI's success for granted BUT they have the ingredients in place for a BIG run-up...;-)
