Paul - I am not weighing in on the "availability" discussion - it seems like both AMD and Intel 1GHz products are available. I was also not trying to make any point about the price, except to note the surprising $1000 difference between the CPQ and DELL machines. That may well reflect a difference in actual performance - the "fastest" still gets a premium even if the difference is only 5% or so.

My response was to the idea that the fast machines were aimed at corporate users. As far as I can see, the fastest machines are aimed at home users who are doing digital video, serious gaming, and the like. Corporate users are still mostly buying around 500MHz.
