Dispersive fiber has got to be a scam on the part of the fiber manufacturers. Let's see... were going to make a product that is really good, but, it has this little problem. (chromatic dispersion) So, guess what we are going to do? We'll make another type of fiber, Dispersion Compensating Fiber DCF, that we can sell to the same customers because our other product sucks.

As soon as someone besides the fiber manufacturers come up with a viable chromatic dispersion solution, all of a sudden you will see this great NEW transmission fiber that has flat dispersion (not zero, just flat) across all wavelengths, they can charge a big premium for it and make up for the loss in DCF revenue. Then we will all just pat them on the back and tell them how smart they are!

what a world... what a world...
