"Just like it is woefully iefficient (and hence not done) for there to be multiple electric lines carrying power into the home, it is similarly inefficient to to have multiple bit pipes (coax, copper, or fiber.)"

WW- Great post. I don't believe I recall hearing the angle you propose might have been best-- Turning the LMT into a, "transport," mechanisim. Interesting idea.

But I wonder why you think it's inefficient to have multiple transport pipes connected to subs(business or consumer)? I've said years ago, on this thread, I think it's good to have as many pipes as possible. The more the better. No matter what the best intentions of the FCC are, nothing beats competition.

-Look at what DBS did to the MSO for one.
-Look at what ATT(purchasing cablecos) did to the incumbents as another.
-Look at what multiple LD backbones did for LD consumers.
-Look at what multiple mobile wireless pipes are doing for mobile wireless consumers.
-Most of all, look what MSO vs. MSO did for me here in central Florida. Incredible competition has been forcing both to alter their plans considerably, and often.

Toss in MMDS, VDSL, or the utilities, and I think that only spells good things for technology advances, and ultimately the consumer.

Inefficent? Probably from some perspectives. But the bottom line is fierce competition drives companies. IMO, it's the very basis of what makes the USA such a strong economic power. -MikeM(From Florida)
