*OT* Israel had turned conservative (and more Orthodox) a long while back as a result of the influx of immigrants from the now defunct Soviet Union. Conservative here doesn't mean what you think, Richard. It is more of a hard line stance toward negotiating peace with the PLO and its neighbors through giving back territory won in previous wars. PLO for Likud means Red for a guy like you. Why negotiate peace and give back territory to an enemy that is out to ultimately take over your country and destroy you? That's Likud's Philosophy. Whenever the intense pressure builds from the US to negotiate peace through give backs with the PLO, Likud comes back in favor. Nothing unusual about that. It happens all the time and then the switch back to the other party for a while when the US puts the heat on that the peace process has gotten nowhere.
