Consider the User Dexterity issue: It has been widely overlooked IMHO the issue that GSM, NexTel and other assorted mobile phones don't require much if any user dexterity to operate or use. Don't underestimate the fact that mobile phones and their networks are now designed so that handphones can operate in buildings with their antennas down. Handphones are easily pocketable (i.e. small), have great battery life and are devices that you can use for all your communication needs both inside and outdoors. Oh, they are also cheap and air-time fee's are such that you don't mind chatting on them. This is unlike the dearly beloved Globalstar which is not an everywhere use phone (i.e. inside of buildings) and requires a certain degree of user dexterity to manage the bulky antenna for reception and transmission (i.e. you gottda keep it verticle and stay cognizant to be away from objects that will block or interfere with satellite coverage). I will say though, Globalstar did an outstanding technological design and engineering job at giving the potential customer the best possible chance of acquiring and maintaining a satellite signal by using the wonder of CDMA's multi-beam capability. It's a darn shame this technological wonder feat will not be able to support its costs and service its debts to remain a viable ongoing business enterprise for the reasons cited in #reply-11665407, #reply-11666902, #reply-11684987. This is a real bummin' situation to which i would gleefully loved to be proved wrong/eat crow over! Geoff
