For tax purposes, what values do I assign to each?

Dennis,

Sorry my language was incomplete; I think Alski has it right:

Message 14131600

0.2101513X (old tax basis COMS shares) for COMS
0.7898487X (old tax basis COMS shares) for PALM

So just multiply your cost by 0.21 and 0.79 or so . .

Best,
SAF

Dennis,
Your total tax basis are:
0.2101513X (old tax basis COMS shares) for COMS
0.7898487X (old tax basis COMS shares) for PALM

And don't forget to include any commission in your original tax basis. For 500 shares bought at 21:
COMS adjusted basis = (500 x 21 + commission) x 0.2101513
PALM adjusted basis = (500 x 21 + commission) x 0.7898487

For cost per share divide your tax basis of each by the number of shares.
