Along the neighborhood streets that intersect El Camino Real, between the Highway 92 overpass and 31st Avenue, you can hear the sounds of the digital revolution.

I've been watching this construction for a few months now. A trench was dug along the El Camino from Menlo Park north to Millbrae (roughly 15 miles). I also notice a lot of trenches in secondary streets that serve commercial areas. Most of the trench digging is complete.

By the end of 2001, it hopes to have 90 percent
of its cable systems in the area on its fiber backbone.

gotta say San Fran ain't Kansas. The time involved with the two way upgrade rollout is significant, because without it ATHM can't be offered. If San Fran is effectively competed by year 2002[tier 1] we could expect upgrade builds to go into 2003 and 2004 for lesser homes per mile areas [tier 2 & 3] and conservatively 2005 and 2006 for rural america.

anyone know what T's 2 way upgrade actuals?

Interesting that in certain states the Public Utilities Commission sets the homes per mile minimums for CATV builds. We have 15 homes per mile minimums for installation. I wonder if the homes past projections include those areas which have not been built. The state mandates that the MSOs provide end of line surveys which identify areas which require builds. This could effect the total numbers of houses within a system and the overall subscriber base.
