In honor of your id, cosmicforce, maybe the UUs are the astrophysicists of the religious realm, with their own Grand Unified Theory of religion. All the forces look the same within a nanosecond or picosecond or something of the big bang, and there was nothing before that. Well, a highly structured kind of nothing, of course, but that's another story. Maybe the neo-pagans just can't quite handle the nothing before part.

Personally, I think I used to be a neo Bokononist, from the Cat's Cradle poem:

Tiger got to hunt,
Bird got to fly;
Man got to sit and wonder, "Why, why, why?"
Tiger got to sleep,
Bird got to land,
Man got to tell himself he understand.

Now, though, I accept that there's a lot of things that just aren't understood, or don't particularly have any cause other than chance and the randomness of the universe, and leave it at that. Maybe they'll be understood someday, maybe not, but there's not much point in invoking the classic Greek "deus ex machina" to make sense of it all. The "creation science" point of view hasn't exactly lead to any useful additions to the body of understood things that I know of.

Cheers, Dan.
