Dear Tench:

Probably the same things AMD workers said of ZDNet and C/Net articles that tried to say the K7 is unstable. At least I acknowledge that it might have been damaged in shipping, the previous recipient may have damaged it (although it should have been caught before being shipped to Tom), or one of those internal failures due to electromigration or some other aging process that makes it no longer work at rated speed.

Paul, however, wants to kill the messenger, and can not believe a CPU slipped through the cracks in Q/C and/or P/R. These are much more possible, especially in a rush. Given enough lead time, this could have been corrected. Many of these sites do tell of slip ups and the speed (or lack of it) of the fix so that they can continue testing. This can show the level of support behind a product.

Hopefully, Intel can get Tom a good CPU or whatever it takes to fix it, and we can go back to arguing over the performance rather than the reliability of the CPU.

Pete
