John,

MOT's stock price over the next week ought to give us some idea of what a good announcement would do for AMD. If MOT starts climbing and continues to buck the SOX's trend, I'll be the first in line at AMD's doors demanding some major "good news" announcements. ;-)

John Re: Motorola

" I just posted that I thought the MOT story would lift the semi's tomorrow and then you go ahead and say that the SOXX will drag down Motorola tomorrow. Actually, the news came out after the close so its full impact might not even have been felt on MOT's stock."

Sorry, here is a flash news from CBSMarketWatch that shows the meeting was held this morning:

MOT surges on guidance
--11:16 am - By Michael Baron
Motorola (MOT: news, msgs) is gaining 1 11/16, or 5.1 percent, to 34 15/16. The Schaumberg, Ill., communications technology firm seems to be getting a boost from news coming out of an analyst meeting being held Tuesday morning in Chicago. According to the Dow Jones News Service, Motorola executives said they remain comfortable with analyst estimates that it will report earnings of $1.05 a share in fiscal 2000. The company also said that Wall Street's expectation for earnings of $1.43 a share in fiscal 2001 is "achievable," according to Dow Jones.

My Dear John - Your question Is the glass half-empty or half full? can be answered in that the glass is, quite obviously, twice as big as it needs to be.
