OK, You were a good sport Brian1970 and obviously one with a reasonable sense of humor and willingness to share it. So you should have an answer to your questions. (And I am none too anxious to go slogging through Tom's add infested site so you're going to get an answer whether you want it or not:8)

1. Why Sony needs luck?
Well first of all, as I understand the prevailing Buddhist and animist theologies of their region, the luck Dragon plays a prominent role in the prospects of every enterprise. In this case however the characteristic will have to dominate all others if they are to produce the universe of audio-visual equipment predicted by Jim K, with parts as hard to come by as DRDRAM.

2. Am I saying that engineers would rather die than be associated with Rambus' technology?
Heavens NO! There are bad engineers too you know! ...Not to mention the "fence sitters" amongst them. (:8) But the really good ones that we rely upon in time of war for our best Penetration Weapon Systems would surely rather fight than switch to DRDRAM. And I am certain that if forced to design for the stuff simply because a bunch of "Andy Wannabees" think they can make a name for themselves whipping the Dramurai into the Rambus Line, ...well there is such a thing as honor you know. Provocative? No doubt. Nonsensical? I think NOT.

3. Who are the "loyal opposition"? Why I do believe I named them, i.e, AMD, VIA, JEDEC, ADT, AMI, the world is full of these freedom loving competitors.

4. Fud-Spreading shorters? Hardly. You err Brian when you assume the motivation of the Anti Rambus forces here is driven by such a monetary calculus. The vehement disgust being heaped upon RMBS is not about share price. Money doesn't generate such hatred. Money and power no doubt draws the attention, but it doesn't feed the flames. No Holy Wars such as this can only be sustained by the perception of evil incarnate.

Like the Civil War itself, this fight may have begun as a dispute over tariffs, but it will end as a battle against tyranny, slavery, and a Devil named... well, we haven't determined that as yet. There are so many candidates that it will probably be 4th Qtr '01 before we can launch the book.

But I promise we'll let you know.
