Re: Standards and the Finesse of Interpretations of Standards

Hi,

Further comments on the Vos/Sprint interview:

You ask: Now that all sounds good, but how does this get implemented uniformly, fairly, and consistently....in a way that everybody believes in? I believe the expression is in my (or your, I'm quite democratic about this) dreams.

Re: Do they fail certification for some feature that may be irrelevant if the vendor's equipment is deployed elsewhere? Sounds like the ghost of DOCSIS....

Re: Vos says, "...which in practice means that the
vendors take the initiative in making sure their equipment interoperates across various protocols and physical interfaces."
.......They define what's important to them, because only they know.

Today there was an interesting and tantalizing mention on the JNPR thread of how CSCO basically wrote the IETF BGP4 standard, but did so with the secret sauce not quite fully described in the recipe book. Meaning that CSCO, along with a few renegades off that farm who ended up writing JNPR's JunOS are the only folks who quite have a handle on AS interoperability. Kinda begins to explain the NT Versalar woes. And now I'm wondering how well AVCI's TSRs get along
in this playground.

BTW, JNPR just inked a deal with Muffin-X for a ton of M160's, FWIW. Er, $51MM at list.... :))

More on Econ 101 in my next missive to the masses....
