Mr. Eira Thomas reports
A letter agreement has now been signed with Falconbridge Limited to explore the
Thye Lake property in the Northwest Territories. Thye Lake (also known as the
Anki property) is located in the South mining district, approximately 550
kilometres southeast of Yellowknife and 135 kilometres northeast of Stony
Rapids, Sask.
Previous work on the property established a drill-indicated geological resource of
15 million tonnes grading 0.45 per cent nickel and 0.19 per cent copper to a
depth of 250 metres. Surface grab samples have also yielded significant
concentrations of platinum group elements (up to 3,700 parts per billion combined
platinum palladium), but no consistent values have been intersected by drilling. A
recent interpretation of geophysical data suggests that there is a significant untested
conductor within the 1,500-hectare land package.
Under the terms of the agreement, Falconbridge has the option to acquire up to a
60-per-cent interest in the property by spending $3-million on the property on or
before July 30, 2009.
Falconbridge plans to conduct geological mapping on the property later this
summer, followed by a program of ground geophysics after freeze-up in late 2000
or early 2001.
