As the cold war ended a lot of cool technology previously reserved of the military entered the civilian market. Add to that compressing technologies and we have quite good possibilities for MW technologies. Radio access will live in our networks for quite a while: you don't need right of way, neither to dig the streets, you don't need to enter the cellar and raise through the building.
