Most religions are impossible to evaluate rationally since they celebrate the irrational. I think there will always be a divide between people who approach the world rationally, and people who approach it irrationally. I think a fundamentalist Christian and an Orthodox Jew have a much better chance of understanding each other, than an agnostic has of understanding either. There is a huge gulf between all people- imposed by the fact that we are encapsulated in separate bodies and forced to communicate by imperfect language about our personal apprehension of the world. But when two people have not only the unique perspective imposed on all humans by our separateness but have as WELL a completely different way of approaching the manifestations of the external and internal worlds- there is no hope of true understanding. Just my opinion.
