Truman was very strong and a great American. The only thing I thought was tragic was the confrontation with Douglas McArthur. However, I believe McArthur should have submitted to Trumans authority.

They had a program on Disc or A&E last week on the decision to drop the A-bombs. This while Japan was trying to negotiate a surrender, and when all but one of Truman's advisors, the Sec of State, advised against the unconditional terms of surrender. Wasn't the Emperor allowed to remain even after this was the main sticking point of the negotiations?

I also recall seeing a long program on Vietnam whereby the US and allies allowed France the colony to make up for its other colonial losses. It was also presented that the Vietnam liberation movement had made overtures to the US government after Japan was defeated.
