To thread: What's an "IPO Closing date"?

From the Luminent S1:

3.3 Conditions Precedent to Consummation of the IPO. The IPO closing is currently scheduled to occur on or before September 15, 2000 or such other date as may be fixed by the Board of Directors of MRV (the "IPO Closing Date").

Does this mean LUMN will actually be trading by 9/15?

<<We just need the market to straighten up its act.>>

I doubt that will happen any time soon.

More and more momentum plays wash over everything. Money moves from sector to sector, stock to stock, exchange to exchange at the blink of an eye, buying whatever is "hot" (moving) and selling at the first hiccup.

Yes, big money can be made investing in the "right" stocks and holding long term. But this volatility can be gut-wrenching as we all know. I'm glad I learned how to trade successfully the past 2 years (it wasn't always that way <g>).
