Neo, I didn't know that but, don't think they could have been under Eisenhower. In the Phillipines, before the outbreak of WW2, Ike was the Aide de Camp to McArthur. At that time, Army issue was a 38 cal. revolver. One time a wild Moro attacked the headquarters, and Ike emptied the 38 into him, but he never missed a step. I think someone else stopped him with a bayonet, but am not sure. Anyway, shortly after that incident, the 45 cal. automatic pistol became the Army issued side arm. I imagine you have better sources to check that out than I do.
