For example, Via Technologies Inc. rang up NT$2.79 billion worth of revenue in July, up a whopping 338% from the same period last year and registering a new high in recent years. During the January-June period, the firm's revenue totaled NT$15.53 billion, up 281% from the same period in 1999. The short supply of Intel CPUs in July affected the overall delivery of chipset manufacturers on the island, executives at Via said. However, Via has become increasingly successful in the supply of its chipset products to several motherboard manufacturers in Taiwan over the past few months. With the endorsement of these motherboard clients, Via's chipset products are now warmly welcomed both at home and abroad, compared with Intel products. Via successfully debuted its PC133 chipsets internationally last year. Via's Apollo pro133A chipset has become the mainstay of the chipset market. This, together with brisk sales of its Apollo KT133 chipset for motherboard AMD K7, will help increase its market share and revenue in the following months. Meanwhile, Silicon's revenue reached NT$801 million in July, down 16% from the same month a year ago but still up 8% from June. The firm's revenue totaled about NT$4 billion in the first seven months, down 34% from the same period a year ago, however. Silicon expects its revenue will grow from September, when its wafer foundry plant will churn out 10,000 wafers per month, concentrating on 0.18 micro-based products. Both the firm's 0.18 micron-based and 0.25 micron-based wafers have become very competitive in the international market, regarding the product perfect rate. ((CCK))
