Tim,

My recommendation is that you buy your camera on-line and save a bunch of money. Try www.shopper.com and compare items by price. Others have recommended mysimon.com for comparison shopping.

Here is a trick I used before buying my first digital camera.

I would recommend that you buy a CF reader and a moderate capacity CF card. Then go to your electronics retailer (with CF card in hand) and try out a bunch of CF-based cameras. It is really helpful to take a test drive before you buy. Then take the card home and see how the pictures come out on your PC. A USB CF reader is about $25.00 on-line. You could buy a CF card at the same time to save on shipping. The biggest problem is that you will probably need to use the flash indoors and you won't get a real representative impression of naturally lit picture quality. If you'd like I would be happy to e-mail you some sample photos at full resolution to get an idea.

CompUSA has the most diverse camera selection, but often the display cameras are broken or out of batteries. BestBuy is probably the next best bet.

Good Luck, Tim and congratulations. A digital camera is probably the third most necessary item for a newborn after a diaper hamper and a breast pump.
