I think I understood what you were saying. Maybe I should clarify my own statement. I am not (currently) afraid of death. I reserve the right to be afraid of things in the future that I am not afraid of now. I don't see my own death as anything imminent and try to busy myself with thoughts of living and the goals that I still seek to achieve in this life time. My question had more to do with people in this situation. Why do people who have full lives and no particular reason to think death is knocking at the door have a fear of it? I fear judgement, both in this life and in what comes next. For that reason I try to make this one work in a good way.

As a child I was a good swimmer and had no fear of water. Once, I made a raft to go out on the ocean. I wanted to paddle it to a small rocky peninsula. From that failed attempt I learned more about the ocean and I now fear its power. I still like going out on the ocean, and look forward to future experiences with the ocean. I have, however, learned that there are some precautions to consider.
