you got it Aus
I've bought 3 walkmans in the last 8 years-why ????--not b/c they're CD quality but b/c they're durable--I can throw them around, drop them, even run w/ them----now that's a concept.
I like cds but even after a few days in a high volume operating room they're scratched and skip.

Don't underestimate the power of cool.

Aus,

LMAO! No, I cool is cool. You have a good point.

That is still a few years away.

A few years, huh. Yeah maybe. So about how long do you think that it will take for a 320 MB MMC card to get down to a dollar anyway?

I think that you, profit and p. girth are missing the point. For a pure MP3 player, the cost efficiency difference with a CD player is overwhelming . In addition, CD's are just much more convenient. That point has not been lost on manufacturers of new automobile and home MP3 players. (none use MMC)

There is the world the way it is, and the world they way you want it to be.

Aus, you mentioned that my post casts a doubt on SanDisk. Not at all! (hey I still have my stock and want more.) What I am saying is that the market will come from a slightly different direction. That is from devices like the Franklin eBookman which I posted about yesterday. This device has 4 different functions of which playing MP3 files is only one of them. eBooks, printed and audio, are going to be a HUGE market. PDA's are already a HUGE market.

Now look at the eBookman. Look at the price ($129) and compare it to PDA's, Palms etc., and as well as other electronic bookreaders. It also has it's own operating system, and special 24 mhz processor that allows it to run 3 times faster than other PDA's on the market.

Now why would anybody just buy an expensive MP3 player, when you can have 4 devices in one for less money? Unless they just didn't know any better.

I'm not the one being short sighted here.

As to the ruggedness and jogging ability of the MPTrip Diskman, I will let you know when mine arrives in a few days. And I have more money left over to buy my digital camera. (as soon as I figure out which one to get!) Now that's cool!
