QS, at least for another year, this is true

I'm making a longer-term statement than that. I believe that

a) Intel is unable to get the thing working (which, talk about finding a bottom, we really don't see the end of)

b)It won't work very well even if they do

c) Windows 2k is not only a disappointment, but it no longer even has Microsoft's full strategic attention. There's a real question whether an enterprise-worthy 64-bit W2K will ever see the light of a sun (no pun intended) that hasn't already gone nova.

c) Therefore there's no operating system for IA64 except Linux, which I look on with far less awe than the conventional wisdomites. The only system that could actually be a quality enterprise OS for IA64 is Solaris, and that's too mired in politics.

d) Wintel OEM's are not complete idiots (almost, but not quite); they know they're going to have to go another route, and they will. I think the AMD 64-bit x86 actually has a better shot than IA64. By the time IA64 is in shape to be used for anything except tie clips and paperweights, it will be all processed up with literally no place to go.

So when I said never, I meant never.

Sure hope you're right about AMD. I must admit I purchased it nervously. Got a stop in at 50.
