Assuming AMD is in fact using available space for Athlons vs Durons - given the shortage in that area - what the hell could INTC could have done. Nothing. They're selling all the PIIIs they can make. Obviously they're not giving this guidance to the people who matter. And that's not an opinion - it's reflected in the share price. > I see your point. Regarding the share price, IMHO the decline in the share price is more to do with Flash nonsense from SSB - JJ report, and to do with the misinterpretation of CISCO VP's recent comments. FWIW - From the Electronic NEWS:http://www.electronicnews.com/news/4143-216NewsDetail.asp ___________________________________________________________________ Aug 03, 2000 --- Strong demand for semiconductors in Internet infrastructure and wireless communications increased worldwide sales of semiconductors to $16.6 billion in June, up 48.1 percent from $11.2 billion from a year ago, according to a report today by the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA). “June’s numbers exceeded our expectations and affirm our forecast for a strong 200,” said George Scalise, president of Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA). “These record-high numbers reflect the growth in the Internet infrastructure and wireless communications markets.” According to SIA, flash experienced a phenomenal growth of 167 percent in June compared to a year ago, followed by field programmable logic devices with 106 percent, digital signal processor with 51 percent, analog at 70 percent and optoelectronics at 65 percent. Scalise said that semiconductor sales were boosted by increased demand for consumer applications that these semiconductors are found, like wireless, personal digital assistants and set top boxes. In addition to semiconductor products, SIA said the DRAM market grew by 75 percent compared to a year ago and the microprocessor market grew by 36 percent from a year ago. On a geographical basis, the Asia Pacific reported sales of $4.26 billion, up 53 percent from $2.76 billion a year ago.
