John - Re: "Do you have any idea how long the new stepping will take to implement across most ot the microprocessor production? That could be one of the keys to a huge 4th quarter."

Once the reticle set/design is verified - which I assume the release of the 1.13 GHz Pentium III implies - and once Intel deems that this stepping should be implimented across all fabs (instead of waiting for yet another stepping !!), then wafer starts could begin across all fabs within a matter of weeks - assuming Intel generates several sets of reticles starting with the first few of each set for each fab.

I would also assume that each fab would run hot lots through with the particular reticle set at each fab - just to insure that the reticle set is OK before committing ALL production starts to the new stepping.

This check out time could be 2 or 3 weeks.

Once they convert, figure on 7 or 8 weeks additional for the new steppings to start coming out.

Add a about 3 or 4 more weeks for sort, assembly and final test, and realistically we're looking at 3 to 4 months - for full production to show up in Intel's shipping products - around the end of November.

Of course, at least ONE FAB is already pretty far along this process.
