I think Velikovsky was ridiculed because he dared to suggest that we have had cataclysms so recent they are still in human memory. He's the only one who has adequately explained the First Dark Age - that period in the Bronze Age when writing was lost and history fell into legend and myth. Some legends are clearly based on real incidents, but no one knows which were which.

How do geophysicists explain the figurines found under lava flows in Idaho that date to the 13th century BC?
