Neo, I went the old route, and checked in an old set of Compton's that I have. The only reference to the Colt 45 auto seems to invalidate the story though. According to a section on pistols, the 45 auto was made the official side arm of the Army in 1911. It may have been different on MacArthur's staff, but there is no way of knowing for sure.

In my poking around, I did find that, contrary to one smart ass on the threads, MacArthur was taken from Corregidor to the southern tip of the Philipines by a Navy Torpedo Boat, and was flown to Australia from there, so the movie was correct in it's reference to the contribution of the PT boats, in that respect.
