IMHO any suggestion that encourages use of G* in the automobile is worthy of promotion. Quite simply, while most talk regarding G* US market potential focuses on niche use, the automobile is not a niche market. It may not be a high MOU/month market, but you don't need a calculator to realize that with that many potential users, low MOUs/month becomes irrelevant. I like your solution a lot. Place your star tac or whatever in the car cradle and bingo, no dead zones. I keep returning to the survey reported earlier ... over 60% of cell phone users would switch carriers to secure better coverage. My guess is that 90% of those complainers experience poor coverage while driving. That is not a niche market. There are other combinations that could be tailored to the needs of mobile users. I've suggested a port on the G* phone that connects it to the roof antennae. For those who see the G* phone as an emergency device, this option gets it out of the glove box and into every day use. Another option would be a hard wired car only G* phone. Purchasers would also get a cell phone from Verizon and a greatly discounted rate on G* minutes included in a single service plan. I'm sure there are other combinations that would ultimately make the G* phone appealing to each and every one of those who complain about coverage. The point is, in-car users of cell phones is a mass market that, in my opinion, is simply being ignored. And its a market that is already dissatisfied with the current cell offerings. In short, the market is huge, self identifying, and easily satisfied with existing product. Why is that market being ignored? My thanks also to Jim Parkinson who is, from what I can see, G*'s most effective marketer to date. Your assurance that someone at G* is open to new ideas is encouraging. The news that this thread is monitored for ideas keeps me banging the drum for the G* car solution. Pierre
