AMD and Intel wouldn't build them if customers wouldn't buy them.

Does everybody need the highest speed ? Of course not.

Do a few people need that speed - of course.

You can's slow down progress by a vote on "is this really necessary" - al least not in the US that I live in. (Although members of the Sierra Club may argue that one !)

Progress and advancements are made by those willing - and capable - of pushing the limits of technology.

To NOT push the limits is to risk - with near certainty - obsolescence.
