DS, picked this up off Greg's thread. A mention of NAS architecture. What is interesting is the forcasted
size of the market by 2005. Of which of course I expect NTAP to have a large chunk!

Re Compaq's nas program, an industry friend sent me the following speculation based on the limited information he's been able to uncover.

Yes, this does appear to be a Windows 2000 server - stripped down. Now, what's very interesting about this, is that NTAP filers run on CPQ Alpha processors, but because CPQ has dropped Alpha support for Windows NT, the CPQ NAS product will not be able to run on an Alpha.

I understand that the product supports both Windows and UNIX files. It appears to be aimed toward lower end Windows customers....lower cost/less than optimal performance.
