If I speed through a crowded intersection, I might survive. I might not, though, and I endanger all of those around me. Even if nothing happens, I am culpable for reckless endangerment. I will not comment on Steven's circumstances, since I do not have details, and this is not about particular people. I merely adduce the principle, that responsibility and carefulness go hand in hand..........

Substitute the highlands of North Luzon for the jungles of Borneo, two kids for six, home-smoked ham and forest-gathered mushrooms for bananas and macaw eggs, and Subic Bay for Manila (Manila was earlier), and you've just about got it. No bulldozers were involved, but resources definitely became inadequate.
