Hi jim kelley; That "Intel Spring IDF" conference presentation you quoted extensively from is from spring of 1999.
February 15-17, 1999
developer.intel.com

And while Intel may have been optimistic about DDR shipping in 2Q01, look at how optimistic they were at the time about RDRAM!

Power consumption is difficult to analyze. Intel is probably not the most evenhanded at this analysis. I am not going to comment on it except to note (1) Intel failed to choose the DDR topology that would minimize power consumption. (2) Intel didn't tell what power mode the RDRAM chips were operating in. (3) Where power matters the most is in the mobile platforms, and Intel cancelled their RDRAM solutions in that space, while Transmeta is targeting their mobile platforms at DDR for the purpose of saving power. (4) It is likely that the DDR chips being compared to RDRAM are the 3.3volt spec parts (that I commented upon at that time as having higher voltage interior than I/O, and the newer parts have much less power. Okay, I guess I will comment on that, as it turns out. (G)

Intel's little problems on latency are already well noted. If latency weren't such a big issue, how come the PC133 beats RDRAM?

But basically, this report is way out of date, and doesn't deserve comment.

That's quite some dated milk you're peddling. Try going back to the cow for some fresher stuff.
