I noticed today that if you buy the latest CompactFlash USB ImageMate...

...there is a voucher inside so you can download something like a dozen free songs from an MP3 site.

I wonder if this is aimed at the Windows Pocket PC crowd because most MP3 players don't use CompactFlash (except the RCA Lyra). It is great that SanDisk is making an effort in their branding and merchandising departments.

I still think they should sell flash cards preloaded with various content and get a percentage for the promotion from the record companies ("unplugged hits" or album montages), the movie producers (upcoming movie trailers) and the electronic book crowd (excerpts from on-line books).

If the iPAQ, Jornada and Cassiopeia take off this year (and gobble up some of Palm's business) we may see yet another spike in CF demand. Any preloaded content could be immediately accessed by the software suite included in Pocket PC. If MMC hits the big time in future palm devices (like eBookman from Franklin, Handsprings MP3 add-on, and the newest Casio palmtops) you could design similar promotions. The potential is there to reach a lot of users while at the same time showing off CF and MMC's potential.
