Ok, since NOK is going to miss the boat with cdma, which handset makers are looking better? I have some shares on NOK, but am looking to put that money elsewhere. Their future doesn't look the same since the Q!'s spinoff.

KYO is one I am watching. Are any of you invested in others that you feel good about?

I figure with Q!, Spinco, and a handset co...that should cover the industry.

Besides GSTRF Maurice!!!!!!!!!!!! I think I have enough.

USEFUL computer tip (?) -- notebook computer "freezes" beyond all comprehension ...

How do you do the equivalent of "pulling the plug" (like you would with a normal desktop computer) ?

We were in Hawaii, my notebook computer froze.

I tried Alt Control Delete. Nothing happened.

I tried Esc, Delete, the "Sleep" button. Nothing happened.

I turned it off. NOTHING HAPPENED (!) (This is when I really started thinking : "Holy ****").

I unplugged the electricity from the wall (to see whether the little icon would switch from the 100% charged icon (an electric cord and plug) to the battery draining icon (a partially full battery)) -- nothing happened ! (The icon remained as an electric cord and plug).

I then started thinking : Gee, I wish I had read the owners manual carefully enough to know how to yank out the battery.

Then, I started calling every number in the yellow pages for computer people.

(Lesson learned -- DO NOT have your computer go wacko on you in Kona, Hawaii on a Saturday afternoon. I only reached one live person on the phone out of about twenty tries, and he told me he just happened to be in the office catching up on old e-mail !)

He had no solution.

I eventually called IBM on their (800) number. They were there; they helped me for free.

The answer is :

Hold the (spring-loaded) on/off switch in the spring tension position for about 5 to 10 seconds.

This will "kill" a hopelessly frozen notebook computer (or, at least, an IBM Thinkpad 600 model).
