Emulex bounces on earnings

By Margaret Kane ZDII

Shares of Emulex Corp. (Nasdaq: EMLX) surged 35 percent in early trading Friday, after the data networking company reported strong fourth quarter figures.

Shares were up 17 3/32 to 64 21/32 in morning trading.

Revenues nearly doubled from a year ago to $40.8 million. The company posted a profit of $9.6 million, or 25 cents per share, compared to $3 million, or 10 cents per share in the year-ago quarter. First Call consensus for the quarter was a 25 cent per share profit.

Orders for fibre channel products were strong, with fibre channel host bus adapter revenues growing 26 percent sequentially.

CEO Paul Folino cited a strong network attached storage market as a reason for the boom. NAS uses fibre channel adapters to connect to storage area network resources.

Best,

Duncan
