Note that this same argument about these countries has been made for about as long as I have been in the investment business. Although it will be true eventually that these countries will be very important, they have not as yet. Two decades ago, a lot of people would have thought that PC income in China would be huge in 2000.

two decades ago? you mean, uh Steven Jobs thought so? or Wozniak?

China's GDP has doubled in three years; Mexico's, etc. things change; change quickly now with the advent of the net. greater access to knowledge; free knowledge. this isn't 1990. in 1990 Ericsson's only line of business was AXE. ten years later... in 1995 China had the fewest cellphones. Five years later they are number 1 (ahead of the U.S. with latest internal survey) as they are growing 40%-50% per year. why compare international thinking of 1980 with actual understanding of 2000?

Kumar did not personally visit Dell regarding storage. Call his office. Telephone calls must work well for him.

ratings, as you know, are meaningless in light of what is actually spoken. he plays Dell like a violin. his comments regarding sustainable growth should be viewed as sociological ramblings. i know there is truth to what he states; however the number of current positive variables impacting Dell's future are so great it is impossible to make such a valid prediction stick for any justifiable length of time. he narrowed his focus to three general variables. bad data in, bad data out.

if Dell had tried to utilize the IDC/Dataquest data to predict how well their direct model would do in the market place they would have probably miserably failed. "little room for direct..."

Re: "This thread tends to take anything even remotely negative that an analyst says and blow it completely out of proportion."

OK that includes me so I would like to clarify that statement by saying "This thread takes the investment public's reaction to analyst remarks serious!"

Dell was at 52+ until 1) Fortuna commented 2) Kumar commented. The IDC data didn't take it down only their SEEMINGLY knowledgeable comments about the future did that.

We all know how the broker system works so let's stop blaming the thread for logical reactions to it's perception of illogical manipulations!

I don't wish to be sued by some big broker so I will state that's IMO.
