Could You Explain Wave Counts.

Every explanation I have tried to read seems to make it so complex that any point seems like it could be anywhere.

You did a great job with your prior, I don't know where to start so I'll start at the beginning, maybe you could take a stab at this one.

Alternatively maybe you could point me at an introductory link.
