Popular IBM ThinkPad Models Feature Microsoft's Windows 2000 Professional to Meet Growing Demand Among Enterprise Customers
SOMERS, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 4, 2000--IBM said today that ``plug and play'' features of Microsoft® Windows® 2000 Professional, pre-loaded on IBM ThinkPad notebooks, enable users to easily add hardware options such as scanners, the IBM UltraPort Camera and the IBM Wireless LAN PC Card to their notebook computers without the need to reboot their systems.
Several of the new IBM ThinkPad models, including the recently announced ThinkPad A Series and ThinkPad T Series, feature Windows 2000 Professional. These new product lines are designed to enhance and simplify the mobile computing experience through easy access to IBM help and information via the ``ThinkPad button,'' and new ease-of-use features, including common swappable components and built-in ports for modem and LAN connections. More than two dozen other ThinkPad systems, including the popular ThinkPad iSeries, also support Windows 2000 Professional.

The ThinkPad A Series is comprised of a broad range of desktop alternative notebooks, ranging from affordable to high-performance models with exceptional graphics features. With a travel weight starting at 5.9 pounds (1), the easy-to-use ThinkPad A20m offers a wide range of affordable models with a Mobile Intel® Pentium® III processor at 750 MHz (2), 700 MHz or 500 MHz or a Mobile Intel Celeron (TM) processor at 550 MHz or 500 MHz , 64MB RAM (upgradable to 512MB,) hard drive up to 12GB (3), and TFT display up to 15 inches.

The ThinkPad T20 is ideal to take on the road because models start at 4.6 pounds and feature a 1.3-inch thin profile and up to 4-hours of battery life. The ThinkPad T20 is powered by an Intel Mobile Pentium III processor at 750 MHz, 700 MHz or 650 MHz featuring Intel SpeedStep technology with 128MB of RAM (upgradable to 512MB) and 8MB of VRAM. It is available with 14.1-inch or 13.3-inch XGA display, up to a 20GB hard disk drive and is available with DVD-ROM or CD-ROM standard.
