[New York, Aug. 4 (Bloomberg) -- The New York Stock Exchange has sued 10 unidentified people for impersonating Chairman Richard Grasso on a popular Internet message board.
In a suit filed yesterday in federal court in New York, the exchange claims the John Does, using aliases such as RichAGrasso and RichieGrass, have been holding themselves out as Grasso on the Ragingbull.com Web site.

The NYSE says the defendants are posting messages about securities and securities markets....]

It seems to me that this action is far more damaging to Mr. Grasso's reputation than all the possible junk posts that bear an alias similar to his name. How large an ego do you need to marshal the full weight and resources of the NYSE to combat an irritating abuse that everyone else is potentially subject to as well? Before this action, I had no knowledge or opinion of Mr. Grasso beyond his position.
Now, his willingness to even allow this silly action to proceed tends to place him in a comparable personal category as that earned by the 'inventor of the internet'.

Anyone who seriously believes that Richard Grasso is the actual author of any of these posts should be the subject of a competency hearing.
