Jimbo - Re: "What do you suppose is the problem? Must be a big one, not easily fixed...
Maybe they will have to wait for a redesign on the core?
Pathetic...no excuse for this..."

I am hearing that the problem(s) have been fixed and that Compaq and Gateway have 2-way AthWiper/760 systems up and running - maybe getting ready for a launch this fall - possibly sooner.

Keep in mind this is the "superior" EV6 bus architecture that was so much more advanced than Intel's. <g>

Intel has never shipped a single P6 generation desktop chipset die that didn't support SMP seamlessly and effortlessly.

McJimbo - Re: "Looks like an AMD rep said they had multiprocessor Athlon systems running in the lab last July, not Drew Prairie...and that's even worse..."

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaatttttttttt?

That entire article was an interview with ONE PERSON ONLY - DREW PRAIRIE of AMD - the groupie that yaks with ALL THE AMD CHEERLEADER sites !!

Where do you get the cockamamy idea that a "rep" made those comments and NOT Drew Prairie ?

Clue - IT WAS DREW PRAIRIE that said SMP Multiprocessor machines were running in AMD's labs in July 1999.

That's s YEAR AGO, Jimbo !!!

Any idea why AMD opted to muck up the Dupalon launch and back-to-school selling season - instead of going after the server market with those YEAR OLD SMP systems?
