OT, Ron & Brian, you might also look at eMagin (EMA on the AMEX)which is developing active matrix organic light emitting diodes(AMOLED)for microvision displays and virtual imaging technology on the IBM campus in East Fishkill, NY. It has some arrangement with IBM. It has partnered with Xybernaut (XYBR), is licensed to use Eastman Kodak patents and has patents of its own. The miniature flat screen AMOLED serves the same purpose as the MVIS lasers. Currently it is under AF contract to develop high-resolution AMOLED microvision displays for incorporation in military head-mounted displays...Hey, I am techie challenged and am simply repeating some PR I read. If and when you check out eMagin please let me have the benefit of your thoughts.

This stuff has already been tested in medical and military apps, and is completely safe. So I don't think there will be an issue with people not wanting to use it. As for the cost, I think it will be very cheap since they are in the process of miniaturizing it onto MEMS-type devices that will be mass-produced. My understanding is that the whole she-bang will then consist of a single chip that does both the scanning and laser output functions, plus some kind of wearable or otherwise placed lens to focus it properly.

Another interesting thing is that this same tech can be used for input functions, for instance they are working on making a handheld scanner.
