The article is a little vague, but if this msft/ibm partnership is intended to create an alternative standards body to say, rosettanet then I think its meaningless.

What we need are the applications partners to come up with standards - Say ariba/commerce1/SAP create a std XML document to add inventory to the exchanges for SAP manufacturing customers. Msft has nothing to add here (if thats what this partnership is intended to provide).
