more longhairs in the South
Between Austin and the Deep South was East Texas. That place was bad for longhairs. I figured maybe it got worse as you went east. (We did skip though at high speed occasionally to wind up in New Orleans, still one of the number one fun places to be, but don't tell those other guys or they will all move in and make it a generic city).
