Everybody having a nice RELAXING weekend, hopefully? I'll tell ya ... I feel like a 'new person' when the stock market is closed <g> ... She X and "he X" and family are in the middle of packing 17 years of belongings to move to their new home ... she says she misses all and is eager to have the time again to visit with the Porch people ... sends her very best regards. She said they close on the house in about a week, and will return soon after the unpacking is over with. PS Uncle Frank re 'happy retirees:' LOL. Oh, yeah ... I know many extremely happy retirees ... probably no great feeling of security than achieving financial independence, yes? Well, what do you think? Is there an 'adjustment' period for the entire household? I think a lot depends on the type of career the person is retiring from. I think the self-employed fare a lot easier. Example: In the typical 50s or 60s young household, father worked 35+ years for U.S. corporation. Suddenly, in mid-80s or 90s, retires. Suddenly, is at home 'underfoot' <g> (I have heard the wives talk about this-- and I have seen it in family members; friends' fathers, mothers) ... at loose ends ... used to being in an environment of 'efficient, hierarchial order' ... in an office, or manufacturing operation, etc. Psychologically, some of these men suffer a very upsetting 'loss of identity' ... the 'structure' and meaning -- the sense of PURPOSE; achievement, etc -- of 35 years of their lives has abruptly 'ended.' Some gain weight; some develop health problems; etc, etc, etc. Some die. I don't know of anything sadder than the 'loyal' life-time corporate employee who retires at 65 and drops dead at 67. Others sail through it wonderfully. What I really only started out to say was that couples can simply 'get on each others' nerves' once the guy (or both) retires and they're at home together all day long. Nothing major; kinda funny. Temporary, for sure. Sounds like you and 'Aunt Nancy' are having a great time -- good for you! What are you doing ... lots of travel? Hobbies? Something besides investing like the rest of 'slaves?' Hope your not a slave to the computer because of investing like many of the rest of us ... I'm hearing some real scary stuff about DELL ... accounting practices, etc ... anybody else here have any interest or info recently concerning such? Can't really see much on the SI DELL board. TIA, "b-i-a" ###
